2012 Vauxhall Astra unveiled - News - What Car?

This is the 2012 Vauxhall Astra, which has updated styling and is available with more high-tech kit and a new diesel engine.

Astra hatchback and Sports Tourer models have a new look, with restyled front bumper and grille. There are also new front indicators and foglights. At the rear, there's a new bootlid panel and an additional chrome moulding.

The Astra GTC's styling is unchanged, but it gains the option of a new BiTurbo model, which has a twin-turbo diesel engine. The 2.0-litre unit develops 192bhp and 295lb ft of torque, giving a 0-60mph time of 7.8 seconds and a top speed of 139mph. Average fuel economy is 53.3mpg, with CO2 emissions of 139g/km.

There's a £995 premium for the BiTurbo over the 2.0 CDTi 163bhp model. As well as the boost in power it gains bespoke 18-inch alloys, climate control, lowered suspension, a new bodykit and upgraded interior trim.

There's also a new rear-view camera, winter pack and LED daytime running light options, plus three new exterior colours: Sculpture Bronze, Phantom Grey and Deep Sky. The Astra's standard DAB radio system has been upgraded to a Digital Media Broadcast (DMB) system across the range.
